Smooth like Butter(y)
Vol.1 Issue 04 | Buttery
It’s a rainy Thursday morning here in Bacolod. I hope everyone is keeping warm and dry.
It’s my daughter’s birthday today - she’s five. And today we’re giving her something I dreamed about when I was a kid - a classic McDonald’s birthday party. I just hope the weather cooperates.
One thing I noticed here in Bacolod is food establishments get significantly less foot traffic whenever it rains - but maybe more delivery (who knows?). Let’s keep supporting local businesses whatever the weather - especially those that we love.

WHAT’S NEW: Buttery in Bacolod!

Last Sunday, we had the chance to try Buttery at the new Sitari high-rise condominium along Lacson St. corner Capitolville access road. I had to emphasize on high-rise as this is the latest of the very few skyscrapers in Bacolod - but maybe not for long as Bacolod is truly on the rise, literally.
After coming from Sunday lunch at Sugba Sugba (I’ll probably post about this soon!), we arrived at Buttery and it was jam-packed on a Sunday afternoon (good for them!). Our group had to wait for a few minutes until a table opened up (we were 9 pax) . I personally don’t mind waiting for a table - a packed cafe or restaurant is always a good sign.
Buttery is a Dumaguete-based dessert shop that is best known for their polvoron and cakes. It used to consign desserts at The Sitting Duck in Paseo Verde until it finally opened its own shop in Bacolod.
Once seated, we ordered our cakes and I chose the galleta de leche and matcha tiramisu. Both looked too tasty to just choose one! We also ordered coffee alongside our cake slices and I had the hot cafe latte.
My verdict? The cakes live up to the brand’s name as both were smooth as silk. The galleta de leche tasted like leche flan but in cake form, topped with a light cream frosting that perfectly balances the texture and flavor of the “leche flan” base. On the other hand, the matcha tiramisu is also a winner with the combo of light and fluffy tiramisu and matcha powder. I’m partial to anything matcha so it was love at first bite. The fluffy texture reminded me of the mille crepe cakes from Paper Moon - layered yet very light. Both cakes were not too sweet at all (something I love to say as well for the cakes at Calea) yet super creamy, and well, I guess, buttery!
Bacolodnons are so discerning when it comes to food but I have a feeling that Buttery will live up to their high expectations.
‘Til the next meal,
RD
